Law Enforcement Services
 

The Law Enforcement Services Section is composed of three teams of law enforcement and criminal justice specialists serving Virginia’s state and local law enforcement agencies. They are the Law Enforcement Services Team (LEST), the Crime Prevention Center (CPC), and the Office of Homeland Security (OHS).


Law Enforcement Services Team (LEST)

The Law Enforcement Services Team (LEST) administers grants, specialized training and other support services to Virginia law enforcement agencies. Its staff administers the state law enforcement agency accreditation program through the Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission (VLEPSC), performs agency management studies, and develops model policies/directives so that local agencies maintain the highest possible levels of professionalism and service provision.

Crime Prevention Center (CPC)

The Crime Prevention Center (CPC) initiates and maintains special programs such as the Crime Prevention Specialist (CPS) program, the Certified Crime Prevention Community Program (CCPCP) and the Private Crime Prevention Practitioner (PCPP) certification program. It also monitors the statewide Neighborhood Watch program (.pdf, 28 pages) and assists organizations such as the Virginia Crime Prevention Association and the Virginia Crime Analysts Network. Office of Homeland Security (OHS)

The Office of Homeland Security is committed to assisting the state-wide law enforcement community, both government and private industry, by bringing together information and resources to prevent, prepare for, and respond to a terrorist attack, natural disaster or other catastrophic emergency. National/Non-Virginia Sponsored Training Opportunities

Drug Task Force Supervisor School (DTFSS)

This is a tuition free course offered by the Department of Homeland Security's Federal Law Enforcement Training Center. The Drug Task Force Supervisor School addresses the operation of multi-jurisdictional rural crime and drug enforcement task forces. Courses include management and supervision of a task force, memoranda of understanding, asset forfeiture and sharing, task force funding and budgeting, standard operating procedures for task forces, liability and risk management, operational concerns, and confidential source program management.

Fourth National Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) Training Conference

May 30 - June 1, 2007 in Tampa, Florida - The SART conference theme for 2007 is “SART: Promoting Justice, Health, and Hope” and is sponsored by the Sexual Assault Resource Service of Minneapolis, Minnesota, with funding from the Office for Victims of Crime, Office of Justice Programs, U.S. Department of Justice, Grant No. 2006-VF-GX-K002. The goal of the conference is to further the development and improve the operation of SARTs across the nation.

International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Training & Education

Provides information about a wide diversity of training opportunities for law enforcement officers throughout the year.
