Law Enforcement Programs

  • The Virginia Crime Prevention Center was established at DCJS in 1994 to provide crime prevention training and technical assistance.

  • The Code of Virginia (§9.1-102(25)) directs the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) to develop a “comprehensive, statewide, long-range plan for strengthening and improving law enforcement and the administration of criminal justice throughout the Commonwealth.”

  • The Regional Law Enforcement Training Academies provide entry level law enforcement and in-service training to local law enforcement agencies across Virginia. There are 11 regional academies strategically located throughout Virginia which serve the majority of Virginia law enforcement agencies. The regional academies are governed and operated by the member agencies. The academies are funded primarily by the member agencies which is supplemented by state funding. DCJS is responsible for certifying the academies to provide mandated training.
