The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services is proud to sponsor an interactive 8 - hour training in the Mental Health First Aid curriculum focused on helping young adults who may be experiencing a mental health challenge or in a crisis.
Mental Health First Aid for Higher Education is designed with colleges’ and universities’ unique culture and resources in mind. Training students, faculty and others in higher education settings how to recognize the symptoms of emerging mental illnesses or to assist young adults in a mental health crisis can help lessen the severity and impact of mental illnesses.
The course includes:
Campus police and security personnel, municipal law enforcement with a connection to institutions of higher education, student conduct professionals, campus administrators, residence life staff, and faculty.
Partial In-service Credit (PIC) for law enforcement officers and security officers will be available.
There is no fee to attend this training.
Registration begins at 7:30 AM
Training runs from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Attendees are responsible for all meals, transportation, and lodging.

Please note that the DCJS registration system does not have the capacity to sort eligible from ineligible registrants. Therefore, anyone who registers will receive a confirmation. It is the responsibility of the DCJS assigned course director to review the roster and make a final determination on acceptance into the course. Registrants not accepted will be notified via the email address provided during registration.
