The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) is pleased to announce “Basic Campus Threat Assessment Team Training” at Bridgewater College and Norfolk State University.
In the immediate aftermath of the April 2007 shootings that occurred at Virginia Tech, the 2008 Virginia General Assembly responded by implementing legislation requiring public colleges and universities to develop threat assessment teams and violence prevention committees.
These trainings are the result of over five years of research and collaboration between DCJS, Virginia Tech, University of Virginia, and many other public and private universities in the Commonwealth. The trainings are designed to assist colleges and universities in the development and implementation of their threat assessment teams. The session will address the many legal and information sharing issues that arise in operating these teams, as well as approaches to threat assessment, case management, policies, procedures, and case studies. In addition, the session will address the functional roles of threat assessment team members and how they can operate practically within an institution. This session provides practical suggestions for institutions engaged in implementing threat assessment teams and processes.
The session will be presented by Dr. Gene Deisinger.
This training is intended for Virginia campus threat assessment team members including campus and university law enforcement officers, municipal officers working with campuses, security personnel, and civilian team members.
Law enforcement and campus security officers will receive partial in-service credit hours for this training.
There is no registration fee for this course.
Participants are responsible for their transportation, lodging, and meal expenses.
Registration begins at 7:30 AM
Training runs from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM
Pre-registration is required.
Please note that the DCJS registration system does not have the capacity to sort eligible from ineligible registrants. Therefore, anyone who registers will receive a confirmation. It is the responsibility of the DCJS assigned course director to review the roster and make a final determination on acceptance into the course. Registrants not accepted will be notified via the email address provided during registration.
