The Virginia Center for School and Campus Safety (VCSCS), in conjunction with the University of Virginia’s Curry School of Education, is hosting a School Safety Audit Webinar with a focus on the Virginia School Climate Survey. The 2020 school climate survey, that will be administered in grades 9-12 between February 3, 2020, and March 27, 2020, is a component of the annual School Safety Audit which school divisions are required to submit to the Virginia Center for School and Campus Safety (VCSCS), according to § 22.1-279.8.B of the Virginia Code.
The school climate survey is a tool for schools to monitor and improve school climate in order to maintain a safe and orderly school environment conducive to learning. The VCSCS school climate survey was conducted for grades 6, 7 and 8 in the spring of 2013, 2015, 2017, and 2019; and was conducted for grades 9, 10, 11, and 12 in 2014, 2016, and 2018 and will be conducted for these grades in 2020.
This webinar will provide an overview of the School Safety Audit, detail the Virginia School Climate Survey process, and highlight the usefulness of the climate reports schools receive after completion of the survey. Participants are invited to email any questions in advance to Nikki Wilcox at nikki.wilcox@dcjs.virginia.gov or Shellie Evers at shellie.evers@dcjs.virginia.gov.
The Webinar will take place on January 22, 2020 from 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm.
