Criminal Justice Plan

The Code of Virginia charges the Department of Criminal Justice Services with the development of a Criminal Justice Services Plan for the Secretary of Public Safety. The purpose of the Plan is to identify broad criminal justice issues in the Commonwealth, serve as a framework for the creation of short and long range decision-making, establish a foundation for more detailed analysis and planning, and promote system improvements.

The Plan is designed to be comprehensive, inclusive and complementary of existing agencies’ and other public safety governmental plans. In addition, the Plan will address traditional public safety issues as well as issues in which public safety agencies interact with other government functions such as education, mental health, and social services.
