Watson Online Information System
Watson—the companion to our internal database and licensing system known as Sherlock—combines the contact information page, the initial and renewal application submittal system, and the training enrollment system into a single convenient online system.
Now, with a single logon, you can update your contact information, renew any of six Private Security applications, or submit any of 10 initial applications.
You do not need to "sign-up" or pay for this service.

Easy to Use!
Each application provides instructions, eligibility requirements and descriptions of any documentation that must be submitted to the department before processing is complete.
We've also greatly reduced the amount of information you need to enter for every renewal, and only present links for those applications that are eligible for renewal.
What Can You Do With Watson?
- Submit initial applications: registration (RA), firearm endorsement (RF), instructor (IA), private crime prevention practitioner certification (JC) and special conservator of the peace (VA).
- Submit renewal applications: registration (RR), special conservator of the peace (VR) and instructor (IR). Avoid mailing and processing delays, especially if you are close to your expiration!
- Submit additional applications: fingerprint (FP), partial training exemption (WA), additional category request (MP1) and duplicate ID request (MP2).
- Enroll in entry-level training: compliance agent (CA), general instructor (GE), defensive tactics instructor (DE), firearms instructor (FE) and private crime prevention practitioner (JE).
- Enroll in in-service training: compliance agent (CT), general instructor (GI), and firearms instructor (FI). Reserve the date and location of training!
- Update contact information: mailing address, phone number, email address, etc. Keep DCJS updated, so we can keep you updated!
- Check on the status (approved, denied or pending), issue date and expiration date of individual applications and/or training school/business applications.
- Discover reason(s) an application may be pending such as "training requirements not met", "insufficient payment" or "fingerprints not submitted."
- Learn what other applications must be submitted and/or documentation that is required to be submitted before the application can be approved.
- Verify approved categories of registration, business, instructor or training school.
- Order fingerprint cards.
Who Can Use Watson?
- Individuals: Check the status of your applications; update your contact information; learn reasons why an application may be in pending status; view categories you are already registered in; submit initial and renewal applications; and verify date of issuance/expiration. Check Watson before calling our offices for a quick answer!
- Businesses: Compliance agents may request a pin number for their business, but will continue to use their personal DCJS ID number as the username. Not only will a compliance agent be able to check the status of their business applications, but they will also have the capability to check the status of their employees’ applications, including initial applications. Use Watson to resolve issues prior to calling our offices and make sure your employees know to contact you first.
- Training Schools: Training directors and assistant training directors may request a pin number for their school, but will continue to use their personal DCJS ID number as the username. Like businesses, not only will training directors be able to check the status of their school applications, but they will also have the capability to check the status of their employees’ applications, including initial applications. Use Watson to resolve issues prior to calling our offices and make sure your students know to contact you first.
