Description

The purpose of this school is to provide the basic knowledge and skills necessary to train public safety personnel and first responders on appropriate handling of situations dealing with Alzheimer's patients. It is intended to motivate and present a combined system of skills and attitudes, and to advance new ideas about the handling of this special population group. This training will emphasize the skills needed for the attendees to present this topic area to other agency personnel.

Prerequisites

Applicants for this training should be willing to assist their own and other agencies in their area with training as it relates to this subject. Attendees should have a strong interest in Alzheimer's and or related problems associated with dementia and sharing information on this topic with fellow first responders.

Priority

Class size is limited. Participants will be chosen on a selected basis according to the above criteria and the responses received. If submitting more than one name for consideration, please indicate on the registration form the priority in which you wish the applicants to be considered. You are encouraged to submit registrations as soon as possible.

In-Service Credit

13 hours of career development in-service credit will be awarded to law enforcement officers; 7 hours in-service credit will be awarded for one-day training. The Virginia Office of EMS has approved this program for 10.5 hours of Continuing Education awarding both Category 1 ALS and Category 2 BLS to be distributed as follows: Category 1 ALS : Area 89: Assess and Provide Care for Patients with Altered Mental Status: 1 hour; Area 89: Assess and Provide Care for Patients with Behavioral Problems: 1 hour; Category 2 ALS and BLS: 8.5 hours.

Tuition, Meals & Lodging

There is no registration fee for this training. Any lodging or meals will be the responsibility of the participant's agency.
