The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) in collaboration with the Office of Attorney General Mark Herring is pleased to offer a two-day training entitled “Cold Case Training: Investigation, Prosecution, and Victim Notification in Cold Case Sexual Assaults”. This two day training will dive into investigation and prosecution of cold case sexual assaults and victim notification. This multidisciplinary training will cover a variety of topics including trauma and its impact on victim behavior and memory, techniques for building cases that foster victim participation and overcome typical hurdles to prosecution, and the importance and value of multidisciplinary approaches to sexual assault cases.
This training will be instructed by John F. Wilkinson, AEquitas: The Prosecutors' Resource on Violence Against Women and Chief Thomas Tremblay (ret.), Thomas Tremblay Consulting & Training.
This training is being offered at no cost to multidisciplinary teams of investigators, prosecutors, victim advocates, and/or forensic nurses. Due to space limitations, multidisciplinary teams will be given priority.
Partial In-service Credits for law enforcement and Continuing Legal Education for attorneys pending
There is no fee to attend this workshop and all training materials will be provided for registrants.
Participants are responsible for their transportation, meals, and lodging arrangements and expenses.
Registration will begin at 7:30 am
Training begins at 8:00 am and concludes at 5:00 pm each day.
