ALERRT Shooter First Responders Operations in Rural Terrain (FORT)
Course Description
The Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training - First Responders Operations in Rural Terrain (FORT) course was primarily designed to assist law enforcement officers in safely and effectively responding to an active shooter in a rural environment. This "hands-on" course will cover equipment selection, vehicle ambushes, medical emergencies, mounted and dismounted officer/citizen down rescue, dismounted individual movement techniques, dismounted team movement techniques, and hasty vehicle assaults.
NOTE: Some students attending this course have found it to be physically challenging. You must be able to walk moderate distances, jog, kneel, and crawl and lift moderate weight.
Course Objectives
The objective of the FORT training is to aid and enhance law enforcement officers' ability to safely and effectively respond to - address - and stop an active shooter in a rural environment.
Eligible Participants
Sworn members of rural law enforcement agencies
Class size is limited
Equipment
- Pen and paper
- Duty gear to include holster
- Clothing conducive for crawling around on the ground
- Body armor
- Long gun (if issued)
- Inclement weather gear (majority of course is outside regardless of weather conditions)
- Water and/or hydration system
- Good attitude and open mind
Course Credit
Students successfully completing the course will receive PIC hours
Costs
Tuition and course materials are free. Lodging and lunch (during training) will be provided. Students are responsible for travel and all other related expenses.
