Thank you for your interest in joining us for the 2008 Virginia Victim Assistance Academy. Our Advisory and Steering Committee appreciates your understanding that the faculty of the Academy should include a variety of perspectives, including university and practitioner instructors, criminal justice officials, victim advocates, crime victims, as well as representatives from different geographic regions within Virginia, different victim service agencies and organizations in order to contribute to an intensive, cohesive, and effective training program. All potential presenters must submit an application in order to be considered as a faculty member. The Academy will provide a 45-hour comprehensive, academic, interdisciplinary and interactive training program for crime victim service providers, advocates, allied professionals and others who work with crime victims. A comprehensive curriculum using adult learning theory will be provided to faculty members, and we will consult with selected faculty members for their expertise on specific issues. Attendance for the entire Academy is not expected. Selected applicants will be advised of their selection by April 1, 2008.

The training topics for the Academy include:
