The Virginia Center for School Safety within the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services is pleased to announce a collaborative effort with the Governor's Office for Substance Abuse Prevention, the Virginia Department of Education and the Virginia State Police to sponsor the 2007 Virginia School Safety Conference and Pre-Conference Workshops.

The 2007 Virginia School Safety Conference will be a wealth of information for anyone interested in the most current school safety concerns. The conference will be held August 7-9, 2007 at the Hampton Roads Convention Center located at 1610 Coliseum Drive in Hampton, Virginia. A lovely 295-suite John Q. Hammons Embassy Suites Hotel connects to the convention center by covered walkway. In addition to the Embassy Suites, there are several other hotels located within walking distance or a short drive from the convention center. The conference will feature general sessions with keynote speakers as well as breakout sessions focusing on specific school safety issues. The conference will also feature the required D.A.R.E. annual in-service training for all Virginia D.A.R.E. instructors.

Hotel Notice:The Embassy Suites Hotel is now full. We have made arrangements to hold a block of 40 rooms at the Courtyard by Marriott Hampton at 1917 Coliseum Drive for conference attendees. Individuals desiring overnight lodging should contact the hotel directly at 757.838.3300 or 800.321.2211 to make their lodging arrangements. Be sure to mention that you will be attending the Virginia School Safety Conference in order to receive the rate of $73.00 plus tax per night. This rate will be honored for August 5-8, 2007. The reservation cut-off date is Monday, July 16th.

Pre-Conference Workshops

All pre-conference workshops will be held Monday, August 6, 2007. It is not necessary to attend the conference in order to attend a pre-conference workshop. The workshops are optional and free but require registration separate from the conference registration.
