Virginia Center for School Safety
Implications of Bullying Legislation Workshop

Changes to the Code of Virginia that came into effect on July 1, 2005 have implications for the way that schools handle bullying incidents. The instructor team for this workshop includes Dr. Dewey Cornell of the University of Virginia’s Youth Violence Project and Dr. John More of Response Law Inc. They have teamed up to explain the implications of this legislation in light of the Family Educational Rights to Privacy Act. (F.E.R.P.A.) and will highlight what has changed and what has stayed the same in the way schools must handle bullying. It is recommended that both school based law enforcement officers and school administrators be aware of this new legislation. This training will provide the resources necessary to confidently address this issue. School Security Officers and other school safety practitioners are also welcome to attend.
