Training Overview

The Virginia Center for School Safety within the Department of Criminal Justice Services is pleased to announce this collaborative Crisis Management Institute. Topics addressed during this 1-day training will include:

• A Threat Assessment Model
• An Overview of School Safety and Campus Safety in Virginia
• Current School Violence Prevention Strategies
• Free Resources for Crisis Planning and Prevention
• Ongoing Crisis Preparedness Projects in VA: Readiness and Emergency Management Grant Recipients
• Review of State and National Crime Trends and Their Implications for Campus Safety
• The Importance of Teamwork: VT Lessons Learned
• Threat Assessment in Schools: A Crucial Component of School Safety Planning

Training Participants

The training is designed for school and campus safety practitioners from K-12 and institutions of higher education. Law enforcement officers and school security officers completing this training will receive 7 hours of in-service training credit from the Department of Criminal Justice Services. Class will start promptly at 9:00 a.m. and will conclude no later than 5:00 p.m.

Training Costs

The Department of Criminal Justice Services will provide this training free of cost. A working lunch will be provided. Additional meals and travel expenses are the responsibility of the participant. Class size is limited and registrations will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.
