The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services in cooperation with the Office of the Attorney General is pleased to announce upcoming overview training in the new law-related education for teens program, "Virginia Rules." Built upon the success of Virginia’s former Class Action program, Virginia Rules focus is on the criminal justice system with particular emphasis on how Virginia laws apply to teens. Virginia Rules will educate young Virginians about the law and help them develop skills needed to make sound decisions, to avoid breaking laws, and to become active citizens of their schools and communities. These lessons are designed for middle and high school students. In addition, Virginia Rules offers a comprehensive website with law-related resources and tools for use by students, parents, and instructors. From the website, instructors will access and download lessons with student worksheets, student topical handouts, and supplemental materials. User-specific educational portals will also be available for use by students and parents.
This training is intended for teachers, school safety practitioners, and school resource officers (SROs) serving the middle and high school environments. Law enforcement officers and school security officers will receive four (4) hours of legal credit for their participation in this training.
Current Virginia Rules curriculum topics include:
A working lunch will be provided on site.
