Description

In the immediate aftermath of the shootings that occurred at Virginia Tech in April 2007,  the US Department of Education, Office of Safe and Drug Free Schools stepped forward and became an important partner to the university. In addition to offering support and guidance, the Office of Safe and Drug Free Schools (OSDFS) provided financial resources in the form of a grant. Assessing and Responding to At-risk Behaviors in a Higher Education Setting: A Virginia Tech Demonstration Project is a two year project, the culmination of which is this forum on threat assessment. The forum will include presentations of initiatives undertaken by Virginia Tech including threat assessment, case management, policies and procedures. In addition, the forum will include training for threat assessment teams. This forum is designed to provide on-the-ground suggestions for institutions engaged in implementing threat assessment teams and processes.

Law enforcement officers will receive partial inservice credit hours (PIC-3) for their participation in the training.
