CANCELLATION NOTICE: As COVID-19 continues to impact communities across the nation, we, at the Virginia Center for School and Campus Safety are continually reevaluating our training and conference schedule. After much discussion, and given that this particular event was expected to bring over 1,100 participants to the Hampton Convention Center, we reluctantly determined it best to cancel the 2020 School Safety Training Forum scheduled for July 27 - 30, 2020.

2021 SCHOOL SAFETY TRAINING FORUM
We are also excited that the dates for the 2021 School Safety Training Forum are already set for July 26 - 30, 2021.
Don’t miss the 20th anniversary of the Virginia School Safety Training Forum to be held in Hampton, Virginia on July 28-30, 2020. The Forum will feature engaging keynote speakers and useful workshops for as many as 1000 participants in the fields of law enforcement, school security, PreK-12 administration and counseling, and others with an interest in school safety.
The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services is pleased to partner with the Virginia Office of the Attorney General, Virginia Department of Education, and the Virginia D.A.R.E. Association to bring you this multidisciplinary training opportunity.
The theme of the Forum, “Prevention and Relationships: 20 Years and 20 Topics,” highlights the importance of collaboration among all stakeholders to ensure a safe and supportive school environment. During this 2.5 day event participants will have the opportunity to hear from local, state, and national experts on a multitude of topics related to school safety including, but not limited to:
Morning Half-Day Session: Registration begins at 7:30 am. Training runs from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm.
Afternoon Half-Day Session: Registration begins at 12:30 pm. Training runs from 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm.
Full Day Session: Registration begins at 7:30 am. Training runs from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.
Conference - July 28-30, 2020:
Registration begins at 7:00 am on Tuesday, July 28, 2020 and runs until the forum begins at 8:00 am.
Forum runs from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Forum runs from 8:00 am to Noon on Thursday.

This workshop will provide school leaders and law enforcement working in schools important information about current drug and alcohol trends affecting the youth in our communities.
Topics to Be Addressed:
How to recognize alcohol and drug clothing, alcoholic energy drinks, alcopops;
Alcohol and drug concealment methods and containers, drug paraphernalia;
Drug related music and groups, logos, stickers, new technology, youth party tendencies, party games, non-traditional alcoholic beverages;
Social networking sites;
Synthetic drugs, OTC drugs, inhalants, concentrates, Ecigarettes, and popular party drugs; and
Common stash compartments that can be used to hide weapons inside everyday clothing containers and other items, in addition to the impact on traffic safety.

Information Sharing and Other Legal Considerations - Dr. John More
In his usual matter of fact and quick-witted manner, Dr. More will provide participants with an update of the recent legislative mandates in Virginia and an understanding of what it takes to build an information sharing bridge between the school and law enforcement community. His strategic approach provides guidelines, coupled with key elements of Federal and Virginia law, with the goal of enhancing the ability of school and police personnel to share information in order to reduce risk to students, staff, and police personnel within the school environment and beyond. An overview to understanding and navigating the Family Educational Rights & Privacy Act (F.E.R.P.A.) will also be provided.

Applied K-12 Threat Assessment - Dr. Gene Deisinger
This applied course is offered for established school threat assessment team members and those with responsibility for and experience with K12 threat assessment. This training is designed to enhance skills, identify common team problems and solutions, and provide information on best practices and standards. The goal for this half day course is to give participants a chance to practice their skills in key areas—threat assessment procedures; case management planning; conducting threat assessment interviews; and determining appropriate interventions.
Target Audience
The target audience for this course is members of school threat assessment teams and those with a role in preventing, deterring, interviewing or managing concerns of violence in schools, as well as those providing oversight to school teams at the division level. This course is appropriate for division superintendents and other division leaders, school principals, assistant principals, local law enforcement officers, counselors, psychologists, social workers, nurses, and local mental health professionals. A Basic K12 Threat Assessment Management course is recommended as a prerequisite for this course.

The registration fee for VENDORS is $500 per vendor (for up to two (2) representatives) if paid via credit card at the time of registration. Registration fee includes open skirted table, electricity and Wi-Fi, lunch, and entry into Keynote and Breakout/Workshop sessions as desired.
