The Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) is pleased to announce the 2022 National Threat Assessment Conference for Educational Institutions. With over a decade of implementing threat assessment teams in institutions of higher education and K-12 public schools, DCJS has had the opportunity to join with subject matter experts to learn what works based on research and best practices. The successes and lessons learned in this area have led to a continued search for opportunities for improvement, to share resources, and to pursue better outcomes for the safety of all students, staff, stakeholders, and ultimately for the community.
The main purpose of behavioral threat assessment is to recognize and respond to concerning, aberrant, or threatening behavior with the goal of diverting individuals from violence to themselves or others. This conference will address threat assessment from a prevention and intervention focus with an emphasis on the latest research, legal requirements, and overcoming challenges in implementation.
