Description

The Virginia Center for School and Campus Safety is pleased to partner with the Maryland Center for School Safety and Kristina Anderson, Virginia Tech tragedy survivor  and founder of Koshka, a non-profit focused on improved school and campus safety, to offer “The Briefings: Resiliency and Recovery after a School Crisis”.  This one day event will bring together local educators, law enforcement, and other school safety stakeholders to hear compelling field-tested and expert methods for advancing school safety protocols and police response from individuals who have responded to and experienced school violence first-hand through the Virginia Tech tragedy, the school shooting at Perry Hall High School, and the mass shooting plot that was averted at Catoctin High School in Maryland.  This symposium will highlight the importance of communication, leadership, training and preparation, as well as the steps necessary to create preventative solutions, and guidance on creating immediate recovery plans. Attendees will receive tangible resources in school safety initiatives and hear personal accounts from a survivor, school leader, first responders, and an emergency planner.
