The DCJS Virginia Center for School and Campus Safety is pleased to offer this two-day Fair and Impartial Policing Training of Trainers (TOT) program presented by Fair & Impartial Policing®, LLC.
The Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS Office) supported the development of two training programs based on the Fair & Impartial Policing perspective—one for recruits/patrol officers and one for first-line supervisors. The Fair & Impartial Policing TOT Program allows teams of trainers, from academies and other law enforcement training organizations, to learn to implement both the recruit/patrol officers’ and first-line supervisors’ curricula. This two-day TOT “walks” trainers through every aspect of the Fair & Impartial Policing Training Program and provides opportunities to “practice” teaching the modules of both curricula. Participants will receive both the recruit/patrol officers’ and the first-line supervisors’ curricula, including comprehensive lesson plans, trainers’ guide, and PowerPoint presentations to implement these two training programs.
At the conclusion of the TOT, trainers will be able to:
Understand and effectively communicate the science of implicit bias and the fact that it can impact what we perceive/see and can (unless prevented) impact what we do;
Understand and effectively communicate that fair & impartial policing leads to effective policing; and
Use the Fair & Impartial Policing Training curricula to teach academy recruits/patrol officers and first-line supervisors to:
recognize their conscious and implicit biases;
implement “controlled” (unbiased) behavioral responses; and
promote fair & impartial policing in their daily work.
This training is open only to sworn law enforcement officers and academy training coordinators. AGENCIES SHOULD SEND EVEN NUMBERS OF ATTENDEES SO THEY CAN PERFORM TEACHBACKS TOGETHER.
Law enforcement officers who complete this training are eligible to receive partial in-service credit hours.
Check in will begin at 7:30 am
Training will run from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm each day.
There is no fee to attend the training and all materials will be provided. Pre-registration is required.
