The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services is pleased to offer two opportunities to attend Creating Strong and Sustainable Sexual Assault Response Teams (SART) in Virginia.
This training will explore the foundations of a strong SART, examine how to create processes that support systems change, and develop plans that reinforce the sustainability of SARTs. The training will focus on the building blocks of effective SARTs as well as understanding the phases of systems change as a method to achieve real change in sexual assault response. Participants will learn about SART member roles/responsibilities and will walk away with concrete tools and strategies to manage conflict resolution and strengthen their existing SARTs with an emphasis on sustaining the team’s long-term work of improving the criminal justice response to sexual violence.
This training is intended for victim advocates, law enforcement, medical personnel, Commonwealth’s Attorneys, Title IX Coordinators, and any other disciplines who serve on SARTs.

Johnanna Ganz is the Rural Projects Coordinator for the Sexual Violence Justice Institute at Minnesota Coalition Against Sexual Assault. In 2015, Johnanna earned her doctorate from Bowling Green State University with expertise in organizational and occupational identity in sexual and domestic violence victim advocacy. After completing her education, Johnanna began work as the Systems Change Program Manager with the Sexual Violence Center in Minneapolis. While there, Johnanna served as the Hennepin County Sexual Assault Multidisciplinary Response Team (SMART) coordinator and led the team through the protocol development process. As a result of her education and experience, Johnanna has developed trainings and resources on topics such as organizational trauma, vicarious resilience in advocacy, and creating healthy environments for advocates and their organizations.
Partial In-service Credit (PIC) for Virginia law enforcement officers will be available. All participants will receive a certificate of attendance after completing an online evaluation following the training.
There is no registration cost associated with this training.
Lunch will be included.
Participants are responsible for their transportation and lodging arrangements and expenses.
Check in will begin at 8:00 a.m. and course will be held from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
