Description of Training:
DCJS Victims Services is pleased to announce that registration is now open for the Futures Without Violence training “Succession Planning within Domestic and Sexual Assault Organizations." For non-profit organizations to succeed, it is essential to think critically about the long-term leadership needs of the organization in anticipation of any unexpected changes that may arise, to prepare for planned leadership transitions, and to strategically develop staff internally. Presenters will discuss key elements of a succession plan with specific attention paid to developing a long-term succession-planning lens, identify core values related to equity and social justice in succession planning, and describe a process to plan for leadership transition within a domestic violence/sexual assault organization. Throughout the series, presenters will share tools and resources to assist Virginia-based DVSA organizations to plan for the near and distant future.

This 3-week webinar series will include a unique blend of live and preparatory assignments, group and individual activities, peer exchange, and implementation planning. When registering, please know that you are committing to attending all three webinars being held January 28, February 4, and February 11.

Presenter Bios
JANEEN B. GINGRICH, MSW
Janeen has worked for non-profit organizations for the past 22+ years, with her focus for the last 8 years being on capacity building, leadership development, and change management. She started out working at a DV/SA shelter in Southwest Virginia in the 1990s (Women’s Resource Center in Radford, VA). Janeen is a champion of strength-based coaching, creating connections between organizations and people, addressing issues around equity and inclusion, and organizational development. She has worked at or volunteered for a total of five DV/SA organizations, including the statewide coalition in North Carolina (NCCADV), where she was most recently the Director of Programming. Janeen is the principal consultant at Marquis-Duggan Non-Profit Solutions, which she founded in 2008 and named in honor of her mother and grandmother.
MARGARITA GUZMAN, JD
Born in El Paso, Texas, Margarita Guzman is a queer Chicana and survivor of intimate partner violence. She received her bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University and her law degree from George Washington University School of Law. Upon graduating from law school, Margarita established a legal clinic for indigent Spanish-speaking mental health consumers in New York City. Her legal practice later focused on representing primarily Latinx immigrant survivors of domestic violence in housing, family and immigration legal matters, as well as teen and young adult survivors. In 2013, she entered civil service at the Mayor’s Office to End Domestic and Gender-Based Violence, where she ran the Bronx Family Justice Center until joining the Violence Intervention Program (VIP) in 2017. She currently serves as Executive Director at VIP, working with largely immigrant and low-income Latinx survivors of domestic and sexual violence.
