Afternoon Session: 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm (Check in begins at 12:30 pm)
This refresher and testing are only open to those sworn law enforcement officers who have been assigned as an SRO between July 1, 2020, and June 30, 2023, and who have already completed the SRO Basic training course.
The SRO certification standards and eligibility criteria approved by the Criminal Justice Services Board on October 13, 2022, will be fully implemented on July 1, 2023. However, two options have been provided to agencies to obtain SRO certification for law enforcement assigned to schools as SROs prior to the implementation date.
OPTION 1: Certified law enforcement serving as SROs prior to July 1, 2020, without a break in assignment as an SRO, may request a waiver for initial training (SRO Basic) in order to obtain their initial SRO Certification. The waiver process for eligible SROs will be sent out prior to July 1, 2023.
OPTION 2: Law enforcement initially serving as SROs between July 1, 2020, and June 30, 2023, and who have previously completed an SRO Basic course but have not yet tested will be eligible to complete an SRO Basic refresher course provided by DCJS, followed by the SRO Certification exam. Testing will occur between July 1, 2023, and September 1, 2023.
We are pleased to announce an opportunity to complete a two-hour refresher training followed by completion of the SRO certification test at the School Safety Training Forum during the pre-conference on Monday, July 24, 2023, at the Hampton Convention Center.
