Session Description
This session is offered as a pilot training in response to feedback from K-12 constituents to offer the Basic BTAM course in a condensed version, focused on the fundamental aspects of behavioral threat assessment.
Participants will learn the following:
What is a threat?
What is concerning/aberrant behavior?
The principles of threat assessment
Understanding the Pathway to Violence
Mandated roles and responsibilities of threat assessment teams
The threat assessment process
Assessing and classifying threats
The importance of reporting, reporting mechanisms, and overcoming barriers to reporting
The nexus between threat assessment and suicide risk assessment
Information sharing
A case scenario will also be woven into the training.
