8:00 am to 5:00 pm (Check in begins at 7:30 pm)
This Pre-Conference Workshop is intended for individuals who have completed a school or campus Basic Threat Assessment Training.
Please do not register if you do not meet this requirement.
Professionals from Virginia Institutions of Higher Education have been actively engaged in threat assessment and management programs since 2008, when the Virginia General Assembly enacted legislation requiring Virginia public institutions of higher education to implement and operate threat assessment teams. Since then, the Virginia Center for School and Campus Safety has offered dozens of basic and applied training sessions to support campus threat management teams. As campus threat assessment team members have completed those training opportunities and become more experienced, they have regularly requested additional training opportunities to enhance their knowledge and skills related to the practice of threat management in an educational setting.
This workshop will provide opportunities for the participants to:
1. Learn and engage on a range of topics not covered in foundational training sessions. Topics include:
Enhancing Team Dynamics and Decision-Making: Lessons Learned from Science and Practice
Threat Assessment Interviewing: Considerations in Planning and Approach
Intimate Partner Violence: Considerations for Threat Assessment and Management
Threat Management and Title IX: Addressing the Nexus
2. Practice application of skills and lessons learned through small-group work on case scenarios.
The workshop is appropriate for members of school and campus threat assessment teams including (but not limited to) school/campus administrators, student services personnel, instructional staff, counseling and mental health professionals, human resource personnel, attorneys, law enforcement and security personnel; as well as staff from regional community mental health and law enforcement agencies that may be involved in school or campus threat management efforts.
