The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services is pleased to announce two, 3-day sessions of Advanced Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) for Communities training on July 23-25, 2019, in Salem, Virginia and on September 11-13, 2019 in Newport News, Virginia. CPTED is based on the principle that proper design and effective use of buildings and public spaces in neighborhoods can lead to a reduction in the fear and incidence of crime, and an improvement in the quality of life. The Advanced CPTED course builds upon basic CPTED training and provides additional specific and practical applications of CPTED. Participants should have some basic knowledge and practical application of implementing CPTED.
Who Should Attend?
This training is designed for local law enforcement, campus law enforcement, local city and private planners, government officials, business leaders, community activists, crime prevention practitioners, and leaders looking for innovative ways to prevent crime in their communities. Participants should have some knowledge and practical application of implementing CPTED.
Partial In-service Credit
Law enforcement officers and security officers will receive 22 to 24 PIC hours. Please note: PIC hours are an estimate and may change due to unforeseen circumstances. This course also qualifies for 24 hours of training credit for Crime Prevention Specialist Certification.
Cost
There is no fee to attend this training.

Transportation, lodging and meals are the responsibility of the participant.

Training begins at 8:00 a.m. and concludes at 5:00 p.m.
Registration
Pre-registration is required. Please note that the DCJS registration system does not have the capacity to sort eligible from ineligible registrants. Therefore, anyone who registers will receive a confirmation. It is the responsibility of the DCJS assigned course director to review the roster and make a final determination on acceptance into the course. Registrants not accepted will be notified via the email address provided during registration.
