The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) is pleased to announce that registration is now open for the virtual seven-part training series, “Federal Grants Management for DCJS Victims Services Subrecipients."
This financial grant management training offers an in-depth overview of the grant cycle, covering every step from the grant application phase to closeout. This training is open to authorized officials, including grant project directors, project administrators, finance officers, and all persons responsible for grant management. Whether you are a seasoned grant professional or new to managing grants, this training series provides detailed guidance and best practices to help you navigate the complexities of grants management and learn strategies for maintaining compliance with the DCJS Victims Services award requirements. Presented by the National Criminal Justice Association's (NCJA) Center for Grants Management, attendees will gain the skills and knowledge to effectively manage their DCJS Victims Services grants, ensure compliance with regulations, and achieve project goals and objectives. After each session, DCJS Victims Services staff will offer “virtual office hours” to answer questions and provide grant program-specific technical assistance.

Presenters:Meg Williams retired from the State of Colorado in July 2019. She was the Manager of the Office of Adult and Juvenile Justice Assistance at Colorado’s Division of Criminal Justice, Department of Public Safety. Meg served as the designated Juvenile Justice Specialist for the state and was responsible for managing many federal and state grant programs that seek to assist with and improve the adult criminal and juvenile justice systems. Important to this effort, Meg was responsible for participation in and oversight of innumerable federal monitoring processes, both comprehensive on-site visits and desk reviews from federal funders (BJA, OJJDP, BJS, NIJ), the Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO), and the Office of Inspector General (OIG). She was also responsible for ensuring subgrant managers for the programs she oversaw assessed the risk of subgrantees and provided the commensurate level of financial and programmatic monitoring to subgrantees. Finally, Meg was also responsible for ensuring that subgrantees were provided grant-specific training and other resources that assisted them in implementing appropriate grant management practices. Meg is a graduate of Kenyon College in Ohio with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and received a Masters in Public Administration from the University of Colorado at Denver.
Tammy Woodhams oversees the National Center for Grants Management at NCJA. In the last 18 months, she has provided grants management and administration training for over 400 participants and designed and delivered more than 11 training programs in 10 states. She has worked with other national organizations, such as NDAA and NAJIS, to create and deliver training for their audiences. She has hosted NCJA's National Grant Management Training Day, featuring SAAs and grant managers from around the country and trainers from U.S. DOJ BJA and the OCFO at the National Forum on Criminal Justice every year for the past four years. She is a certified grant management specialist (CGMS) through the National Grants Management Association (NGMA) and is a certified project management professional (PMP).
Tanya Nichols serves as NCJA’s Grants Accountant and brings 25 years of expertise in federal grant administration, compliance regulation and pre and post-award management, including budget development and administration. She has an advanced understanding of 2 CFR 200, organizational strategies, financial management, procurement and contracting. She has served as Business Administrator of the University of Maryland, Senior Sponsored Project/Financial Analyst for George Washington University, Senior Grant Analyst for the Center for Strategic and International Studies, and Grant Program Manager for Montgomery County Government. She holds a Master of Science in Management and Human Resources and a Bachelor of Science in Management and Accounting from the University of Maryland.
Credits: No credits are being offered for this training. A certificate of attendance will be provided to participants who attend the entire training.
