The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS), in conjunction with Safer Schools Together, is pleased to announce the following training opportunity to help behavioral threat assessment team members better recognize and respond to today’s challenges from information contained on varied social media platforms.
The Fundamentals of Digital Threat Assessment®(DTA) is a half day training session offered by Safer Schools Together (SST) that introduces attendees to the concept of Digital Threat Assessment® and its place within the practice of Threat Assessment. Proactive and evidence-based, Fundamentals of DTA will assist your team in identifying individuals that may pose a threat to the safety of themselves or others.
You will learn:
How technology and digital platforms have evolved
The most popular social media platforms (Instagram, Tik Tok, Snapchat, etc.)
School Safety/Threat Assessment social media account creation and relevant searches
Documentation of social media accounts when conducting DTA
Privacy settings for all the leading social media platforms
To identify vault apps and hidden content
The difference between usernames and vanity names
To download and save videos
The difference between incognito browsing and VPN
Current social media language, trends, and their significance
To document your digital findings
This training is being offered to behavioral threat assessment team members at the school, division, and college campus level. This includes School Resource Officers, Law Enforcement Officers and School and Campus Security Officers. Other members of the school community such as school counselors, school psychologists, school social workers, and school nurses may also benefit from this training.
Law enforcement and school/campus security officers will receive partial in-service credit hours for this training.
There is no cost to the participant to attend this course.
Please note that the DCJS registration system does not have the capacity to sort eligible from ineligible registrants. Therefore, anyone who registers will receive a confirmation. It is the responsibility of the DCJS assigned course director to review the roster and make a final determination on acceptance into the course. Registrants not accepted will be notified via the email address provided during registration.
