To help schools comply with VA Code § 22.1-79.4 (provide guidance to students, faculty, and staff regarding recognition of threatening or aberrant behavior that may represent a threat to the community, school, or self; (ii) identify members of the school community to whom threatening behavior should be reported; and (iii) implement policies adopted by the local school board pursuant to subsection), the DCJS Virginia Center for School and Campus Safety is pleased to announce a series of 2-hour webinars to provide an overview of behavioral threat assessment for K-12 instructional and support staff. The goal of the training is help K-12 instructional and support staff who are not members of a threat assessment team better understand the rationale behind behavioral threat assessment teams and to provide guidance and understanding of these teams and the processes they have in place. Participants will also get a chance to participate in an interactive case study for a “hands-on” perspective of the process that behavioral threat assessment teams go through.
The Virginia Center for School and Campus Safety will also provide participants with a resource link to access our Model Policies, Procedures, and Guidelines as well as other relevant threat assessment resources.
This training is being offered to K-12 instructional staff, support staff, and division personnel, as well as law enforcement officers and school security officers.
***This training is not intended for behavioral threat assessment team members that need the 8-hour basic course***
These 2-hour virtual trainings are designed to provide participants with an overview and understanding of the rationale for behavioral threat assessment and management as well as the recognition of threatening and aberrant behavior to the school, others, or self.

Law enforcement and campus security officers will receive partial in-service credit hours for this training.
Instructional staff will receive a certificate of attendance upon completion of the training and evaluation to use towards their professional development.
There is no cost to the participant to attend this course. Pre-registration is required. The webinars will be held in Zoom. Upon registering, you will receive a confirmation email with the information you will need to join the webinar.
Please note that the DCJS registration system does not have the capacity to sort eligible from ineligible registrants. Therefore, anyone who registers will receive a confirmation. It is the responsibility of the DCJS assigned course director to review the roster and make a final determination on acceptance into the course. Registrants not accepted will be notified via the email address provided during registration.
