The Virginia Center for School and Campus Safety (VCSCS) is hosting a two part K-12 Threat Assessment Webinar with a focus on:
I) an overview of the process and best practices in Virginia, and
II) the process once a threat is identified.
In response to HB2344: Threat Assessment Teams, which requires each public School Board to establish threat assessment teams similar to those required for Virginia's public institutions of higher education, the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) is pleased to announce a series of one-day threat assessment trainings across the state. The goal of the trainings is to provide guidance and training to schools and divisions without threat assessment teams and processes in place as well as those who have teams and protocols in place but have additional staff members who need to be trained. While many school divisions have voluntarily implemented threat assessment protocols HB 2344 now mandates public school divisions to establish a threat assessment team(s) and collect and report threat assessment data.
In support of this legislation, the Virginia Center for School and Campus Safety will provide model policies and protocols for threat assessment. These documents are available electronically at the DCJS Virginia Center for School and Campus Safety webpage.
Full day trainings are being provided at one day threat assessment trainings across the state.
This online training is being offered to K-12 threat assessment team members and others who assist with behavioral threat assessments.
