Understanding Electronic Access Controls for Crime Prevention Practitioners

Course Description:
This one-day course will educate and guide each participant with a working knowledge of basic electronic access and intelligent systems. In this course, students will learn the design and major system components of modern access control and security management systems. Students will focus on the infrastructure requirements for security/surveillance systems as well as common vulnerabilities and mitigations. The course will look at implementing alternative security technologies/methods as well as instituting a resilience plan to mitigate threats to infrastructure (power, network, communications).
Additionally, students will learn about modern and classic access control authentication, credential security, privacy concerns, system designs and understanding how to deal with particular site requirements, conducting investigations in the digital age, the role cybersecurity plays in physical security, infrastructure protection and resources available to both law enforcement and private entities.
This class will be instructed Peter Boriskin, Vice President of Commercial Product Management for ASSA ABLOY Americas and an expert in physical security, video management and access control.

We recommend that those taking this class may also benefit from attending the Understanding Mechanical Locks for Crime Prevention Practitioners and Alarms 101 classes, which are being held at the same location July 23rd and July 24th respectively. Separate registrations are required.
Partial In-service Credit:
Partial Law Enforcement in-service credit hours and Crime Prevention Specialists credit hours will be awarded upon completion of this course.
Tuition and Cost: There is no fee associated with this course.
Participants are responsible for their own travel, lodging and meals costs.
