K-12 Behavioral Threat Assessment and Management Train-the-Trainer Program

To provide ongoing assistance and resources to threat assessment teams, the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) is pleased to provide the following opportunities for K-12 threat assessment teams to access more training. DCJS is offering a Behavioral Threat Assessment and Management (BTAM) Train-the-Trainer (TTT) Program. To be considered for the TTT Program, you must complete an application, meet all prerequisite requirements as outlined in the application, and obtain a signature of approval from your division superintendent (or the superintendent’s designee) as part of the application process. All applications will be reviewed by DCJS staff for approval to attend a BTAM TTT session. Upon approval and completion of the BTAM TTT session, attendees must commit to leading BTAM training for their school/division and attend updated DCJS BTAM trainings as needed and required (3-year intervals).

Please click here to access the application. Completed and signed applications can be submitted via email to Brad Stang, Threat Assessment Program Coordinator, at brad.stang@dcjs.virginia.gov.

Current BTAM TTT dates and locations include:

  • July 18 and 19, 2024– Frederick, VA

  • July 22 and 23, 20224– Roanoke, VA

Additional questions regarding the BTAM TTT Program or application process can be directed to Brad Stang, via email brad.stang@dcjs.virginia.gov or telephone (804) 997-1278.
