The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services is pleased to offer the course “Techniques for Becoming a More Resilient First Responder.”

In the realm of first responders, the absence of trust can foster a culture where personnel hesitate to exhibit their authentic selves. This hesitancy leads to the adoption of negative coping mechanisms to mask underlying mental wellness issues, which can unfortunately result in tragic outcomes, including increased suicides. We are all accountable to both the people of our organization and ourselves for being mindful of our wellness. From command staff to rookies, recognizing and communicating our concerns for each other is everyone's responsibility. All of us within the first responder community play a pivotal role in shaping the levels of trust and the degree of employee engagement in mental wellness initiatives.

Topics to be addressed:

  • Discover three key areas in your life that make you who you are.

  • Learn four essential reasons why you need to develop yourself.

  • Determine four ways you can be the best version of yourself.
