MDT 101: Building a Strong Foundation for MDT Success

Overview
This training is designed to provide a comprehensive introduction to the child sexual abuse Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) model to leaders from new and developing MDTs. Participants will learn about the benefits of collaborative community response to child sexual abuse allegations. Additionally, this training will examine Virginia statutes governing MDTs and emphasize the value of a coordinated relationship between MDTs and Child Advocate Centers (CACs).

Goals and Objectives
This training seeks to address the following goals and objectives:
•    Establish a comprehensive understanding of the MDT/CAC model
•    Create a shared understanding of Virginia’s MDT statutes
•    Clarify common misunderstandings about MDTs and CACs
•    Highlight the benefits of an MDT response for children, families, communities and MDT members
•    Share resources aimed at supporting and sustaining effective MDT functioning

Training Approach and Delivery
This three-hour training will be offered virtually via Teams on the following dates and times:

April 24, 2025, 10:00 am – 1:00 pm
August 21, 2025, 10:00 am – 1:00 pm

Who Should Attend?
All required MDT members are encouraged to attend including law enforcement, child protection, Commonwealth’s Attorneys, medical providers, and CAC staff.  

*All registered participants will receive an invitation via Teams one week prior to the training.
