The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) is pleased to announce “Human Trafficking Victim Identification Course for Law Enforcement Officers” training, presented by The Human Trafficking Institute.
Studies show that while the prevalence of human trafficking is increasing globally, victim identification is decreasing. Data also indicates that victims rarely self-identify as trafficking victims. Proactive victim identification is a vital component to fighting human trafficking. To effectively build this skill set, it is imperative that law enforcement officers receive a solid foundational understanding of human trafficking. Using body cam footage from a real human
trafficking case, participants will be provided the opportunity to look for and evaluate the signs of human trafficking in a real-life setting.
Increase the overall awareness and understanding of human trafficking in Virginia and dispel common myths and misconceptions by way of data.
Learn common indicators of human trafficking and increase victim identification.
Improve human trafficking investigations and prosecutions in Virginia
