Active Shooter Incident Management (ASIM) Advanced

Description

The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services is pleased to announce the addition of the Active Shooter Incident Management (ASIM) Advanced course as part of our statewide initiative to enhance public safety preparedness. This course is offered in partnership with C3 Pathways, recognized as the standard in active attack incident management for civilians and first responders, supported by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and FEMA.

ASIM Advanced is designed to enhance incident management and improve the integration of law enforcement, fire, and EMS during active attack events by enabling responders to manage resources more effectively, improve time to threat neutralization, and facilitate earlier medical intervention, increasing victims' survivability.

Instructors employ a no-fault, no-embarrassment coaching style and conduct 11 live training scenarios with up to 60 students using NIMSPro™, a professional-grade 3D multi-responder simulation system that immerses participants in realistic situations. Dispatchers use a fully integrated CAD system to direct responders who work to neutralize threats, triage casualties, implement warm zone EMS care, treat and transport patients, establish perimeters, manage victims, and more—all within photo-realistic 3D environments based on real-world locations.

To accomplish these operational goals, participants will learn to use a model framework that incorporates the Active Shooter Incident Management Checklist™, which has been validated and integrates the best practices guided by the principles of the National Incident Management System (NIMS), Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC), and Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT).

Course Time and Details

24 hours/3 days. Registration begins at 7:30 am. The course will run from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Class Size

Participants must be sworn Law Enforcement, Fire, EMS, Telecommunicators/Dispatchers, Public Information Officers, or Emergency Managers. Seats are limited to 60 participants, allocated as follows: 

• 30 Sworn Law Enforcement
• 20 Fire / EMS
• 5 Telecommunicators/Dispatchers
• 2 Public Information Officers
• 2 Emergency Managers
• 1 Helicopter Pilot

Prerequisite

FEMA IS-100 and IS-200 are required for certified law enforcement, fire, and EMS participants. These courses are recommended but not required for Telecommunicators/Dispatchers, Public Information Officers, and Emergency Managers.

Required Equipment

Good attitude, open mind, pen and paper.

Partial In-Service Credit

Sworn law enforcement officers will receive partial in-service credit upon completion of the course evaluation after attending this training.

There is no registration fee for this course. Pre-registration is required.

Please note that the DCJS registration system does not have the capacity to sort eligible from ineligible registrants. Therefore, anyone who registers will receive a confirmation. All registrants will be notified whether or not they have been accepted via the email address provided during registration.
