The Office of Safer Communities and Youth Services (OSCYS) supports evidence-based, community driven initiatives that enhance community safety, reduce gun violence, improve the juvenile justice system, ensure a voice for children during court proceedings, and improve the investigation and handling of child abuse cases. The section’s core responsibilities include administering federal and state grant funds; planning and policy development; providing training, coordination, and technical assistance; and supporting organizations serving youth and communities impacted by violence throughout Virginia.
