The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) is pleased to announce the “Community as Medicine for First Responders” webinar, presented by NOTA Fitness.
Description:
First responders face unique challenges that can significantly impact their physical, mental, and emotional well-being. “Community as Medicine for First Responders” explores the power of connection, peer support, and community engagement as essential tools for resilience, recovery, and overall wellness.
This course highlights how a strong sense of community, within first responder teams, outside of work, and in the broader public, can serve as a protective factor against stress, burnout, and trauma. Participants will engage in discussions and activities designed to reinforce the importance of trust, teamwork, and social support in maintaining long-term well-being.
Key topics include the science behind social connection, the role of peer networks in stress management, strategies for fostering a culture of wellness within first responder organizations, and practical ways to build stronger relationships in the workplace and the communities they serve.
By the end of this session, attendees will gain actionable tools to harness the healing power of community, strengthen their resilience, and enhance their ability to thrive both personally and professionally.
Who should attend:
This training is open to all first responder groups, including, but not limited to, law enforcement, fire/EMS, EMTs, dispatchers, and corrections. Additionally, retired first responders, civilian peer support, and mental health clinicians who are culturally competent in first responder wellness are encouraged to attend.
Partial In-service Credit:
Partial In-service Credit (PIC) for Virginia law enforcement officers is NOT available for this webinar; however, a certificate of attendance will be provided upon completion.
