The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) is pleased to announce “The 3 Ps of Safer Greenways" training.
Description:
Everywhere you look, cities and urban areas are developing greenways or urban trail systems. Whether this interest stems from discussions about the environment or from the need to attract younger professionals, more apt to use such systems, they are springing up in every community.
This two-day training is designed to acquaint attendees with the processes, methods, and techniques that have led to success in some systems, and to identify the pitfalls encountered along the way. A classroom primer will also provide the attendee with a rudimentary working knowledge of the basic principles of “Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design” (CPTED) relevant to trail design. An on-site practical exercise with a local greenway will reinforce instruction and use of a provided evaluation tool to examine safety and security concerns of greenways.
The 3 Ps Topics to be covered:
- Proper Design
- Positive Activity Generation
- Proactive Maintenance
This course will not address the specific local design and approval process.
