School Security Officer (SSO) INSTRUCTOR Updates and Policies Review

Description:

The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) is pleased to offer two opportunities to attend “School Security Officer (SSO) Instructor Updates and Policies Review.” 

Each 60-minute webinar will provide school division SSO Instructors with important updates to DCJS staff and policies, as well as a review of current regulations, processes, and forms. Topics will include: 

• Virginia Center for School and Campus Safety (VCSCS)/DCJS staffing and organizational update
• Review of current Instructor materials
• Course requirements and processes
• In-service training requirements 
• Review of current forms and guidelines for their use
• Q and A

Please join us for this interactive review of the essential knowledge needed to comply with the Code of Virginia and ensure the safety of our schools.

Who Should Attend:

Current SSO Instructors from the school division are encouraged to attend. School superintendents and division safety managers/directors are welcome to attend. (An in-person course for New Instructors is currently in development.)

Partial In-Service Credit:

Partial In-Service Credit (PIC) will not be available.

Training Time and Details:

Wednesday, April 29, 2026 - Training begins at 1:00 pm and ends at 2:00 pm. 

Thursday, April 30, 2026 - Training begins at 9:00 am and ends at 10:00 am.

Cost and Registration:

There is no registration fee to attend this training. Pre-registration is required.

Please note that the DCJS registration system does not have the capacity to sort eligible from ineligible registrants. Therefore, anyone who registers will receive a confirmation. It is the responsibility of the DCJS-assigned course coordinator to review the roster and make a final determination on acceptance into the course. Denied registrants will be notified via the email address provided during registration.
