Human Trafficking Investigation and Prosecution

In partnership with the Commonwealth's Attorneys' Services Council (CASC) and Virginia State Police, DCJS is pleased to announce training provided by Human Trafficking Institute (HTI).
This two-part training includes an introductory course on January 11-12 and an advanced course on January 13-14. Participants can register for one or both courses. The introductory course is a prerequisite for the advanced course. You must attend the introductory course or have attended a former human trafficking investigation and prosecution course to attend the advanced course.
Part 1: Introduction to Human Trafficking Training for Investigators and Prosecutors
Human trafficking investigations and prosecutions are very unique. They require a specific understanding of a nuanced and often misunderstood crime involving a comparatively new law. Human trafficking cases are often multifaceted and require a complex investigatorial and prosecutorial skill set. To effectively build this skill set, it is imperative that stakeholders receive a solid foundational understanding of human trafficking. Using a data-driven approach, HTI provides practical, effective training for law enforcement and prosecutors to promote best practices and outcomes in the response to human trafficking.
Part 2: Advanced Human Trafficking Training for Investigators and Prosecutors
The advanced human trafficking training serves as an intensive two-day training for experienced law enforcement and prosecutors seeking to deepen their expertise in identifying, investigating, and prosecuting human trafficking cases. This training builds upon the foundational knowledge learned in HTI’s introductory human trafficking training. Participants will engage in case studies, interactive scenario-based training, and collaborative exercises that enhance their ability to dismantle human trafficking networks and secure victim-centered prosecutions.
Eligible Participants: Sworn law enforcement investigators and prosecutors in Virginia. PIC and CLE credits will be provided.
The introductory course is a prerequisite for the advanced course. You must attend the introductory course or have attended a former human trafficking investigation and prosecution course to attend the advanced course.
Related Fees: The training is free. If requested, lodging is provided for attendees with offices more than twenty-five miles from the training site. Parking is free and breakfast and lunch are provided. Participants are responsible for their own dinner and mileage costs.
Registration: Participants must register in advance. By registering, you are agreeing to participate in the entire two or four-day program.
