Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Device (IED) Detection

Description

The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services, in a partnership with the United States Department of Homeland Security and the Office of Bombing Prevention, is pleased to offer three opportunities to attend the "Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Device (IED) Detection Course" in January 2022. 

The purpose of this course is to provide participants with the knowledge and skills to successfully and safely inspect for, identify, and/or respond to vehicle-borne explosive threats. 

Topics include:

        Vehicle-borne explosive threat overview

        Identifying vehicle-borne explosive hazards

        Assessment of vehicles and occupant behavior

        Vehicle inspection demonstration and activity

Who should attend?

This training is open to sworn law enforcement officers, campus and school security officers, emergency managers and private sector security professionals.

Partial In-service Credit

Law enforcement officers, campus security officers and school security officers who complete this training are eligible to receive partial in-service credit hours. 

Course Time and Details

  • Check-in for the training will begin at 8:00 AM.

  • Training will begin at 8:30 AM and conclude at 5:00 PM.

Cost and Registration

There is no fee to attend this training. All training materials will be provided to participants.

PLEASE NOTE: DCJS is preparing and planning to continue holding training sessions and conferences after a resumption of normal activities.
