The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) is pleased to announce the “Drug Identification” training presented by Professional Law Enforcement Training (PLET).
Description
Drug Identification is a critical tool that every law enforcement officer should know. Unfortunately, very few police departments nationwide provide course-specific training for this pertinent investigative tool in their academies. This training is not only valuable for seasoned detectives or senior officers but is also critical for newer officers just beginning their careers. The ability to recognize narcotics, paraphernalia, cutting agents, and physiological effects in any situation empowers officers to conduct thorough investigations and successfully arrest drug violators, as well as seize large quantities of drugs, firearms, and U.S. currency.
This two-day training course will provide an in-depth look at the most common narcotics currently found on the street, the contraband associated with them, and their physiological and psychological effects. Participants will be shown numerous sample images of narcotics, videos depicting physiological effects, and learn proper procedures for conducting presumptive field tests. Officers will participate in case studies where officers were fired and/or arrested for narcotics-based scandals due to a lack of policies and procedures regarding presumptive field testing or evidence handling.
