The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services in partnership with The Humane Society of the United States is pleased to announce this virtual training titled, “Animal Fighting Investigations: Key Evidence and Common Defenses”.
Animal fighting investigations present unique challenges for law enforcement and prosecutors. Hosted by the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services, this 2.5 hour course will review the relationship between animal fighting and other violent criminal activity, relevant Virginia and federal laws, key components and investigative techniques for both dogfighting and cockfighting, warrants, evidence collection, and prosecution and preparation.
Janette Reever is the global anti-dogfighting expert for Humane Society International. She has been recognized as an expert in both state and federal court as an expert for animal fighting and cruelty in the United States, Puerto Rico, and Australia. She has trained over 6,500 law enforcement officers in animal fighting investigations throughout the United States, Australia, Mexico, and Latin America. Reever has 23 years of law enforcement and investigatory experience and regularly provides guidance and support to enforcement agencies.
This training is open to sworn law enforcement officers and animal services officers.
Partial In-service credit for this training is approved for sworn Virginia law enforcement officers. You must be present for the duration of the course to receive credit.
