Professionals from public institutions of higher education have been actively engaged in threat assessment and management programs since at least 2008, when the Virginia General Assembly enacted legislation requiring all public IHE’s to implement and operate such programs. Since 2013, public schools have operated in accordance with similar statutory requirements. The Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) Virginia Center for School and Campus Safety (VCSCS) has provided a wide range of training to support school and campus threat assessment teams in serving the needs of their educational communities. To support continuous improvement of these teams, VCSCS continues to offer training opportunities to enhance the knowledge and skills related to the practice of threat management in educational settings.
Learn and engage on topics impacting schools and campuses that are not covered in foundational training sessions. These topics will focus on opportunities for greater collaboration, communication and coordination between schools and campuses where appropriate. Such topics may include, but not be limited to:
Threat Assessment and Management: The Nexus Between School and Campus Settings
Enhancing Information Sharing: Considerations for Practice
Threat Assessment and Management Involving Intimate Partner Violence: Domestic/Dating Violence, Stalking, Predatory Sexual Assault/Misconduct and
The Nexus of Threat Management and Title IX
