The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) is pleased to announce a series of 2-day “K-12 Public School Safety and Security Training for Administrators” sessions. Held in conjunction with the “School Resource Officers Basic Course," this training will enhance administrators' knowledge and understanding of best practices and the importance of building partnerships to help keep our schools safe across the Commonwealth. The training will also provide updates to statutory and legislative mandates to ensure schools and divisions stay in compliance with school safety requirements.
This training is designed to meet the requirements of § 22.1-279.8 which states:
E. Each school board shall ensure that every public school it supervises employs at least one school administrator who has completed, either in-person or online, school safety training for public school personnel conducted by the Virginia Center for School and Campus Safety in accordance with subdivision A 1 of § 9.1-184. However, such requirement shall not apply if such required training is not available online.

Developing an Effective School-Law Enforcement Partnership
Requirements and Implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)
Threat Assessment Teams: An Overview
Crisis Management and Security in the K-12 School Environment
Legislative Mandates and Legal Considerations Surrounding School Safety
This course is designed for K-12 public school administrators, at either the school or division level.
A certificate of attendance will be provided.
All sessions run from 7:30 am – 4:00 pm, except Ashburn which runs from 7:00 am – 3:30 pm.
Participants are responsible for their transportation, meals, and lodging arrangements and related expenses.
There is no registration fee to attend this training. Pre-registration is required.
Please note that the DCJS registration system does not have the capacity to sort eligible from ineligible registrants. Therefore, anyone who registers will receive a confirmation. It is the responsibility of the DCJS assigned course director to review the roster and make a final determination on acceptance into the course. Registrants not accepted will be notified via the email address provided during registration.
