The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS), in partnership with The Montpelier Foundation, is pleased to announce this 2-day Constitutional Foundations of Law Enforcement Seminar.
As with any government job, it’s imperative that law enforcement officials are deeply in tune with the rules and regulations that govern their work. In a field that’s heavily scrutinized and often dangerous, having a strong constitutional foundation is important when making split-second decisions. Montpelier is leading the charge in targeted constitutional education for law enforcement officers. Instead of focusing on how the Constitution limits law enforcement, Montpelier teaches law enforcement agents to embrace the Constitution as a steadfast and reliable guide for securing communities.
The immersive nature of studying the Constitution at Montpelier sets this program apart from other training opportunities. Instead of sitting in large lecture halls or hotel conference rooms, participants are tasked with engaging each other and faculty on core American ideals at the very home of the architect of the Bill of Rights. Participants are housed on the property overnight, affording continued opportunities for discourse after the sessions have dismissed.

Who should attend?
This conference is open to sworn law enforcement officers only.
Partial In-service Credit
Law enforcement officers who complete this training are eligible to receive partial in-service credit hours.

Meals, Travel and Lodging
Dinner will be served on June 3, 2024.
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be served on June 4, 2024.

Participants are responsible for all other meals and travel expenses.

Cost and Registration
There is no fee to attend the conference and training materials will be provided.
Pre-registration is required. It is the responsibility of the DCJS assigned course director to review the roster and make a final determination on acceptance into the course. Registrants not accepted will be notified via the email address provided during registration.
