Description

The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services is pleased to announce “From the Case Files of: De-escalation of Youth in Crisis through Understanding Development Trauma, and Mental Health for Law Enforcement.” This one-day interactive workshop on adolescent development, trauma, mental health, and crisis de-escalation will cover adolescent brain development, impacts of trauma, recognizing signs and causes of escalation, and practical de-escalation skills, using videos and live scenarios for a thought-provoking experience. 

Training Objectives:      

  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of adolescent development, trauma, and mental health challenges.
  • Learn to recognize and respond to signs of escalation in youth.
  • Acquire practical skills for effectively and safely de-escalating crises.
  • Participate in interactive scenarios and real-life applications to reinforce learning. 

Who Should Attend?

This training is being offered to sworn law enforcement personnel and is intended specifically for patrol officers and deputies with less than 5 years patrol experience. 

Partial In-Service Credit

Law enforcement officers will receive partial in-service credit hours for this training.

Training Time and Details

Training will run from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Cost and Registration

There is no fee to attend this training. Pre-registration is required.

Please note that the DCJS registration system does not have the capacity to sort eligible from ineligible registrants. Therefore, anyone who registers will receive a confirmation. It is the responsibility of the DCJS assigned course director to review the roster and make a final determination on acceptance into the course. Registrants not accepted will be notified via the email address provided during registration.
