Description:
The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) is pleased to announce that it will host a three-day "Clery Center Training Seminar." The Clery Center’s "Clery Act Training Seminars (CATS)" give higher education professionals a unique chance to bridge the gap between the requirements of the Clery Act and their campus's distinct needs.
By offering a specialized curriculum that addresses both the letter and spirit of the law, the "Clery Act Training Seminars" equip participants with the concrete tools and strategies necessary to create an actionable Clery compliance plan that may be implemented right away or over time. CATS also reflects the most recent amendments to the Clery Act covering the requirements of the Stop Campus Hazing Act (SCHA), which was enacted in December 2024.
Subjects covered in CATS include:
- Stop Campus Hazing Act (SCHA) Requirements:
-Classifying hazing incidents under Clery Act crime statistics
-Establishing policies for reporting and investigating hazing incidents, as well as conducting campus-wide prevention program
-Developing and publishing the Campus Hazing Transparency Report - Identifying and training Campus Security Authorities (CSAs)
- Identifying Clery geography
- Counting and classifying Clery Act crimes
- Drafting the Annual Security Report (ASR)
- Designing and implementing prevention and response efforts for dating violence, domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking
- Managing disciplinary procedures for student or employee cases of dating violence, domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking
- Evaluating the need for and issuing timely warnings or emergency notifications
- Developing, revising, or implementing policy and procedures to address any of the above
While anyone with an interest or desire in learning more about the totality of the Clery Act is welcome at all Clery Center trainings, our CATS curriculum is specifically designed for those with responsibility for oversight of Clery Act compliance and/or implementing its requirements.
