Police and Dog Encounters - Virtual Training

The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services in partnership with The Humane Society of the United States is pleased to announce this virtual training titled, “Police and Dog Encounters”.

This course will address officer/animal encounters and how agencies can be prepared to avoid unnecessarily shooting a family pet. We will discuss situations where officials are likely to encounter canines in the field and review real life scenarios and their outcomes. This webinar will cover basic canine behavior/body language, handling and restraint techniques to provide attendees with a general understanding that can be adopted in the field. We will review the Virginia Animal Statutes relating to dangerous and vicious dogs to ensure investigators understand how to interpret these laws.

Who should attend?

This training is open to sworn law enforcement officers.

Partial In-service Credit

Partial in-service credit for this course is pending. If approved, you must be present for the duration of the course to receive credit.
